A Message From the Principal

Hello SKES Families,

Derick Theirse
My name is Derrick Theirse and I am excited to begin my fourth year as principal of South Kilbourne Elementary School. I am honored to lead such an amazing school and school community.  From 2005-2013 I was a proud math and science teacher here at South Kilbourne.  I was blessed to be a part of the team that was in place for the 2012 National Blue Ribbon School recognition SKES received.  I am overjoyed to be back home at South Kilbourne.  Since my return to SKES, I have met staff members, students, parents, and community members who have all been welcoming and enthusiastic about the future of the school. They have all made me feel like a part of the South Kilbourne family once again.

I come to you with 24 years of experience as an educator in urban settings, ranging from elementary to the middle level. My experiences have helped me see the social, academic and behavioral transitions from Kindergarten to 8th grade. All 23 of my years have been served in Richland School District One. I was a classroom teacher for 14 years and an administrator for 8 years.

I wholeheartedly believe that great schools are the result of great teachers and staff. My primary goal is to ensure that South Kilbourne Elementary School has a highly qualified staff that is dedicated to student achievement.  I will work hard to ensure that I provide the staff with the tools needed to continue SKE’s success.  Our overall plan is to empower our students to achieve their full potential and dreams.

I am excited about the future of SKES, and I look forward to working with the South Kilbourne community once again.  Please know that the academic school years under my leadership will be filled with quality instruction and fun for our students. Please get involved with our school’s PTO and SIC to guarantee that your voices are heard in upcoming decisions. For SKES to reach its potential, it will require strong relationships between the school and community.  I want you all to know that I am here for you.  Feel free to contact me whenever you may need me.  Go Kangaroos!

Thank you,

Derrick M. Theirse, Principal

South Kilbourne Elementary School
